Throughout 2020,2021, 2022 and concluding now in 2024, the three Australian Congregations of Dominican Sisters have led rituals to mark and celebrate the continuing stewardship of their, and our, mission of education on sacred land.  Land that Dominican sisters in NSW, Victoria and South Australia have cared for since the first sisters’ arrival in 1868.  At all rituals the very natural and deep sadness connected with the closing of an era was acknowledged and shared. As a Principal in a past life I have written many newsletters to my community in times of celebration, challenge, and grief.

Dominicans in Conversations – in agreement, dialogue, and debate.

We have all participated in courses, conferences, symposiums, or more likely webinars these days, where we came away feeling that we had been enlightened, learnt something, gained a new insight or perspective, conversed with like minds. I am writing this editorial with the primary intention of inviting you to engage with a recent interview featuring Sr Margaret Mayce OP.  The interview was a central component of a formation session of the DEA Trustees facilitated by Jennifer Hickson, the interviewer in question. Among the many books I have close at hand is Joan Chittister’s The Art of Life, Monastic Wisdom for every day.  I turned to it at the start of the year as I began the process of releasing DEA CEO Marita Winters to her new PJP destination of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
